Family-excursion along the water paths in Vinschgau Valley
No, there are no whales in Vinschgau Valley. But there Waale. These are not animals, but ancient irrigation channels, which irrigate the very dry Mt. Sonnenberg in Vinschgau Valley.Along the Waale there are leading so called "Waalwege" paths. They served then as now to maintain the irrigation channels and in recent years they became popular hiking trails.
The water paths are situated in the upper Vinschgau Valley, the lower Vinschgau Valley and in the surroundings of Meran. The best known wather paths are the Algunder Waalweg, Marlinger Waalweg, Kastelbeller Waalweg and the Gschneier Waalweg in the upper Vinschgau Valley.
The best seasons for excursions along the irrigation channels are autumn and spring.
